Several retro-style games have been released in recent years, and C.A.R.L. is a strong addition to that group. A green screen boot-up sequence greeted the player at startup, reminiscent of the green screen CRT-style boot up we spent hours staring at through the years. Then it bursts into color and playability with a nice little story.
Real retro platform games usually featured simple stories, but C.A.R.L. goes the extra mile to update those old school stories with some new elements, while still maintaining their retro feel. Although we’re here to discuss the game itself, the story elements are appreciated, but it’s the game itself that matters most.
