Nintendo announced that online play and devices that require online communication will also be discontinued, marking the end of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U’s eShop functionality.
On April 2024, Nintendo states that these devices will no longer be able to access online services.

According to Nintendo’s announcement, online play, internet rankings, cooperative play, and data distribution will end for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software in early April 2024.
The company says that, if “an event occurs that would make it difficult to continue online services” for the 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo will announce a specific end date and time at a later date. As well as software exclusive to the New Nintendo 3DS, it notes that this includes exclusive content.
