The battle with Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom isn’t easy, and you’ll feel like there are hundreds of them around you once you start exploring. There are only about six Lynels on the surface, so you have some breathing room if you’re prepared to fight one. But, that doesn’t make it any easier. If you are going into a fight with a Lynel, you need to be prepared, and your weapons need to be strong.
As we mentioned in our guide on how to defeat Lynels, it is best to keep your distance for as long as possible due to their melee attacks. Because of this, we’d suggest having something like a Great Eagle Bow since you can fire three arrows at once without using up all your resources. It is possible to use a savage Lynel bow as well, but you may not have one yet if this is your first encounter with one.
If you want to increase your damage, you should fuse damage-dealing items like Bomb Flowers and red Chuchu jelly to your arrows along with a strong bow. A three-shot bow will allow you to chip at the beast’s health without getting too close, allowing you to rush in with a melee attack when necessary. It is also possible to blind the Lynel temporarily with Aerocuda and Kleese eyes, allowing you to rush in with a strong melee weapon.

It is best to use a melee weapon that you can run in with and land a few quick attacks with before trying to get distance between you and Lynel again. Though the Master Sword is ideal for destroying any kind of enemy, you may not have access to it yet, so before you panic, you can still use a number of other weapons. As a result, I constantly turn to weapons such as the Scimitar of the Seven or at a push, the Fierce Deity Sword if I need to rush in and land some devastating blows. Power is also costly, however, in Tears of the Kingdom.
