Here are some tips to help on your way:
How to Fast-Travel?
Press Circle on the DualShock 4 controller when approaching a Mystic Gateway. As a result, Kratos can go anywhere on the map, although some places may be unavailable. Choose a destination and walk through the door once you are inside. Kratos should now be at your destination.

When to Fast-Travel?
It is not always possible for Kratos to travel where he wants. You must first discover a destination before you can fast-travel to it. This puts your use of fast-travel on the back burner until 1) You learn how to use the Mystic Gateways and 2) you have already discovered a location to travel to. So basically, fast-travel is really only productive when you need to go back and re-farm an area or if you just want to explore.

Do You Need to Fast-Travel?
Initially, fast travel can only be used to return to Brok’s shop when you first unlock the ability, but that will change as you progress through the main story. The one-way ticket won’t last long. You will likely find that you really do not need to fast-travel very often. The game designers have prepared geographic locations with plenty of enemies to kill to gain experience and plenty of loot to grab.
