While I recently removed myself from the Twittersphere, I couldn’t help but notice how many videos I had seen regarding the recently released Final Fantasy 16. Instead of seeing combat action or something showing why I should jump into that world on a whim, I saw countless videos showing PlayStation 5 consoles overheating when the action happened. Because the system is open-topped, dust and other dirt can get inside rather easily. Let’s see what we’ll need to do to take it apart.
What To Gather Up Before Taking Apart PlayStation 5 Console
Here are some things you’ll need to get your hands on if you want to clean your system:

- A soft towel to put your console on
- Compressed Air Can or Electric Air Duster
- Flathead Screwdriver
- Torx Bit (Size 8 Security Bit)
- Toothbrush (Unused)
- Patience
In addition, we are not responsible for any damage caused to your console or side plates while trying to remove the PlayStation 5 side panels. Please follow these steps carefully, because a tab or two may break if not done correctly.

Step One: Power Down Your PlayStation 5
You need to power down your console before you unplug it. You can easily do this by pressing the PS button on your controller of choice, navigating the Power Symbol on the right side, and selecting Power Down. As soon as you see that all of the lights are off, you can unplug your cords from the back. There is no particular order in which you need to do this.
Step Two: Remove The Base From Your PlayStation 5
It depends on whether your console is upright or lying flat which step you take. I personally have my PlayStation 5 standing up tall, so I will take my Flathead Screwdriver (or the metal piece that came with the console, if you didn’t lose it like I did) and remove the screw from the bottom. Place the base off to the side if your system is laying horizontally.
