Firstly, you should turn off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, then close Steam. You can turn off Steam by right-clicking the Steam icon in the bottom-right corner of your Windows Taskbar and selecting “Exit.” You can also access the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del (or Ctrl+Shift+Escape if it’s faster), and then locate Steam under Processes and click End Process.

- Following Steam’s shutdown, launch it again the same way you always do (or press Windows and type in “Steam”).
- A Steam update will be attempted if one is available.
Alternatively, you can clear your Steam Download Cache by opening Steam, choosing “Steam” in the top-left menu, and then selecting “Settings” in the middle.
Find “Clear Download Cache” near the bottom of Settings, under Downloads.
You can also verify the integrity of your Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 files if this doesn’t work either. You can do this by right-clicking CoD MW2 in your Steam Library on the left side and then going to Properties -> Local Files. On the right, you will see the option.
