Smithing Stones and Effects
Smithing Stones are a form of Bolstering Material, one of many materials that you can use to enhance, modify and upgrade your weapons. A Smithing Stone can be divided into two types based on its purpose.
The Sombering Smithing Stones are used for upgrading Special weapons, while the Standard Smithing Stones are used for upgrading Normal weapons. Smithing Stones are found in the open world and can be gathered, or they can be purchased from specific merchants if you know where to look for them.
Let us start out by listing the available Smithing Stones and their effects on armament upgrades.
Smithing Stone 1 (+3)

This a bolstering material used to smith a variety of armaments. There are plenty of shards to be found. Strengthens armaments up to +3. All over the Lands Between, mining galleries have been built to excavate smithing stone.[2]
Smithing Stone 1 (To Find)
- Inside the Limgrave Tunnels, you can farm eight Smithing Stone 1. Enter the tunnel below the cliffside northeast of the Church of Elleh to access the tunnels. Examine the yellow glowing spots on the walls where the miners are digging for Smithing Stones. By defeating the miners, you can also find Smithing Stones.
- If Godrick Knights are defeated, they will drop a Smithing Stone 1. A few of them can be found north of Gatefront Ruins, Stormgate, and Castle Morne.
- The Morne Tunnel in the Weeping Peninsula, east of the Tombsward Site of Grace, is another place where you can farm Smithing Stones 1. It has stronger enemies than Limgrave Tunnels.
- In Summonwater Village, Smithing Stone 1 can be found on a dead body near flooded gravestones.
- An unmarked area near the Warmaster’s Shack is full of giant trolls. When you let one of them destroy the statue in the area, you’ll get Smithing Stones 1 and 2.

- Twin Maiden Husks, Nomadic Merchant (Weeping Peninsula), Cost: 800 Runes.

- Note: The Smithing Stone 1 can only be obtained after offering the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 1 to the Twin Maiden Husks. In Raya Lucaria’s Crystal Tunnel, defeat the Crystalian to get the bell bearing.
Smithing Stone 2 (+6)

There is a type of Bolstering Material that can be found in Elden Ring called the Smithing Stone 2. As the name implies, it is a stone used to smith a variety of weapons. There is no shortage of stone shards to be found in the area. There is a +6 increase in the strength of armaments when using this stone. The Lands Between is dotted with mining galleries that were built for the purpose of excavating smithing stone.
Smithing Stone 2 (To Find)
- There are plenty of giant trolls roaming about in an unmarked area that is near the Warmaster’s Shack, so keep an eye out for them. If you let one of them destroy the statue in the area, you will be able to obtain plenty of Smithing Stones 1 and 2.
- There is a Smithing Stone 2 located on a ledge on the northwest side of the Third Church of Marika, where bears and wolves are fighting over territory.
- As a result of Margit’s defeat, you will be able to find five Smithing Stones 2 inside the Stormveil Castle after she is defeated.
- Located on the Limgrave side of the Siofra River, the Siofra River Well can be found on the northern bank. A Smithing Stone 2 can be obtained by finding the corpse near the multiple skeletons with spears that are near the corpse.

Smithing Stone 3 (+9)

Among the Bolstering Materials in Elden Ring, Smithing Stone 3 is one of the most important ones. There are a number of armaments that can be smithed with this stone. Quite a few shards can be found throughout the area. Amounts to a +9 increase in the strength of your armaments. A lot of the Lands Between are covered with mining galleries that were built to excavate smithing stone from the ground.
Smithing Stone 3 (To Find)
- Kill Flaming Chariot enemies in Caelid to farm Smithing Stones 3. From the Fort Gael North Site, head up the hill. Hit the chariot’s weak point from above to detonate it. Loot the Smithing Stones 3.
Smithing Stone 3 (To Purchase)
The following merchants sell Smithing Stone 3:
- NPC: Twin Maiden Husks, The Roundtable Hold, Through the Northern Corridor from the Table of Lost Grace, Cost: 2,400 Runes
- Note: After offering the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 2 to the Twin Maiden Husks, the Smithing Stone 3 can be purchased. The bell bearing is behind the hidden wall near the summoning pool in the Sealed Tunnel.
Smithing Stone 4 (+12)

The Smithing Stone 4 is a type of Bolstering Material that is used in Elden Ring. This is a stone that is used to smith a variety of weapons. There is no shortage of shards that can be found in abundance. It is possible to add up to +12 strength to armaments. It is not uncommon to find mining galleries throughout the Lands Between that were built to excavate smithing stone.
Smithing Stone 4 (To Find)
- In the Ruin-Strewed Precipice north of Liurnia of the Lakes, you can farm nine Smithing Stone 4.
- The yellow glowing spots on the walls where the miners are digging can be used to get Smithing Stones. Smithing Stones can also be dropped by defeating the miners.

- Twin Maiden Husks, Through the Northern Corridor from the Table of Lost Grace. Cost: 3,600 Runes.
- Note: When you offer the Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 2 to the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold, you can purchase the Smithing Stone 4. The bell bearing can be found inside the Sealed Tunnel behind the hidden wall next to the summoning pool.
Smithing Stone 5 (+15)

It is worth noting that this specimen has a gold tinge to it, which makes it a rare Smithing Stone. This stone is capable of strengthening weapons by up to +18 when used with this stone. Smithing Stone 6 are thought to have been mined at the foot of the Erdtree and to have boosted the strength of the Royal Army as a result.

As the stone was being honed at the time of the birth of the Erdtree, it is believed that it was being used to hone the weapons of the champions in the War against the Giants, during the birth of the Erdtree.

Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (+25)

There are a few rare Bolstering Materials that can be found in Elden Ring, such as Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones. The Smithing Stone is made by polishing a golden Gravel Stone to get the desired finish. This is the scale of the Ancient Dragonlord, and it is one of Farum Azula’s hidden treasures. There is a +25-point increase in the strength of armaments caused by it. Legend has it that the seat of the Ancient Dragonlord lies beyond time and space. By using this stone, which has the ability to gently twist time a little, it is possible to create a weapon that is capable of killing gods.
Using the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, you will be able to upgrade a weapon to +25 and earn the God-Slaying Armament achievement!!

Using Smithing Stones at a Blacksmith
In case that you have collected Smithing Stones, you will be able to use them when you go to a blacksmith or at a smithing table to strengthen your weaponry.
