Many of you may be wondering if any of the cheat codes return in Sonic Origins, Specifically the ones that let you select stages, activate debug mode, and quickly turn you into super-sonic. [1]
The answer is YES! These do return in sonic origins. Sonics 1 through 3 and Knuckles in particular. For some reason they do not in Sonic CD. At least not yet!

How to Activate these Codes
So how to activate these cheats. First you’ll need to access the stage select menu which also includes sound tests for Sonic 1. You’ll have to enter Up, Down, Left, Right on the title screen. For Sonic 2, enter Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right on the title screen. For Sonic 3 its title screen and then Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up. If you entered these codes correctly you’ll hear a ring jingle. Then press start and the menu appears.
These menus of course let you select stages but if you play songs in the sound test in a certain order you can unlock the game’s debug modes, super-sonic tails, and knuckles. If you want to unlock the super characters, the method is the same across every game. Play songs 4, 1, 2, and 6 in that order. If you enter the code correctly a jingle will play as if you collected a chaos emerald. This code will give you all six of them.
Although in Sonic 1 you have to make sure the Max Emeralds is set to 7. That’s not all. In order to activate the super form you have to collect 50 rings, jump in the air and press triangle on Playstation, Y on Xbox, or X on Switch. Earlier versions required a double jump to activate but in Sonic Origins it’s these buttons.
How to Unlock Hyper form of each Character?
You can also unlock the hyper form of these characters in Sonic 3 and Knuckles by entering 4, 1, 2, and 6 twice. However, in Sonic 2 the only way to activate tails super form is by going to the debug mode and spawning an s panel.
How to Get to the Debug Mode?
So how do you get to the debug mode you ask? In Sonic 1 you play songs 1, 9, 9, 1, 0, 6, 2, and 3 in that order. You’ll hear the jingle of a ring when you enter it correctly and then all you have to do is select the stage and get to spawning items all over it. You can swap items with circle on Playstation, B on Xbox or A on Switch. You’ll place items with triangle Y or X and you’ll resume playing with X or B.
On the Older Versions
These controls carry over to the other versions as well. In Sonic 2 you’ll activate debug mode by playing sounds 1,9,9,2,1,1,2, and 4 and in Sonic 3 you’ll play 1,9,9,4,1,0,1,and 8. That is how you get stage select super-sonic and debug mode in every game in Sonic Origins, except for Sonic CD.
