If you are new to the Modern Warfare franchise, you have likely heard many different terms being thrown around. One particular term is critical to your success in the game. It’s referred to as a “Loadout“. So, what’s a Loadout you might say? This term refers to everything that can carry on you in preparation for a new mission. If the mission is to blow up a radar site or an enemy barracks, your loadout should be different than if the mission is to kill a specific human target.
When Can I Create a Loadout?
The Custom Loadout screen will not appear until you have reached Level 4. You can do this by rather quickly by yourself in the beginning by simply playing solo, making kills until you level up to 4. You can also do it quickly by participating in a multiplayer match. If it does not appear, save your progress and restart the game.
Your Loadout Options
There are different ways that you can prepare a Loadout. These include the selection of a primary and a secondary weapon. Specific customizations to those weapons (Customizations are performed by visiting a Gunsmith). There are other items you can equip in your Loadout such as Tactical Equipment, Upgrades and Perks.
Here is an example of the Edit Loadout screen.

Loadout Tips
Here are some things to consider FIRST when preparing your Loadout.
- Know Your Mission: Don’t just start on a mission without first understanding it and preparing both physically and mentally.
- Tactical Preparation: Each mission requires planning on your part if you want to succeed. Review the available maps of the target area. Plan your access route and multiple escape routes.
- Weapon Up: Decide what weapons will be most effective for that specific mission. Simply going with your most lethal weapon may not be the right weapon. This applies to both your primary and secondary weapon. This decision will also depend on what customizations you have made to each weapon.
- Tactical & Lethal Equipment: There are many items that you can purchase or obtain that will give you a tactical advantage on a mission. For example, Medical Syringes for healing if you get wounded. Tactical items such as Frag Grenades, Smoke Grenades, etc.
- Perk Packages: A new Perk system is available in MW2 that provides you with Perk packages at different intervals. The perks can include enhancements for strength, endurance, armor, etc.
